Artist Statement

Drawing inspiration from everyday life, Adrianna’s work explores her relationship to the environment, nature, and personal relationships. By focusing on the minutia rather than a whole scene she draws attention to objects and spaces that are often overlooked while simultaneously capturing the memory and character of a space without locking onto a specific moment. Though the subject matter varies, the one constant is the use of close observation. Through cropping and scale her work invites the viewer into an intimate interaction with the small details of an object, such as the way light is cast across a surface. Often focused on the more formal elements of a painting, she uses vibrant color and the manipulation of light to add a sense of drama to her paintings. Thin sketchy marks are juxtaposed against intricately painted details, to create a balance between loose and tactile brush strokes, tight realism, and a sculptural use of paint that creates dimensionality within the work. Her monotypes provide an opportunity to examine her environment with a looser quality than her paintings through the use of collage and invented images.
